Newton's First Law of Motion
An object at rest will remain at rest, or an object in motion will stay in motion at the same speed and in the same direction, until acted on by an unbalanced force (or a non-zero net force).
This law is also known as the Law of Inertia.
Inertia is the tendency of an object to resist changes in its state of motion. The bigger the mass, the greater the inertia.

Without the golf club hitting it, the golf ball will just remain where it is.

The engines provide the thrust (force) so that the plane can take off!
